Karen came to USU from University of Florida in October 2006 when her husband was hired by the Center for Advanced Nutrition. Karen has a broad background in administrative support and project management. At the University of Florida Karen served as the department secretary for Health Education and Behavior. Prior to UF, she was a project administrator for a firm that manufactured and installed airport security shutters and boarding bridges throughout the United States. Karen has more than 10 years experience in office administration and project management.
At the TCO, Karen handles many of the day to day administrative functions of the office including managing the staff schedules, travel and purchasing. Karen also assists in managing the accounts payable and deposits, document preparation for patent filing, and manages the TCO docket for disclosures and patents.
Karen has also recently started working on a bachelor degree at USU.

LJ Bolton began working for the Utah State University Technology Commercialization Office in December of 2002. Her responsibilities consist of managing all administrative task which include providing technical support for all intellectual property including inventions, patents, projects and agreements. She conducts research and prepares complex monthly metric analysis reports regarding TCO's activities. LJ also reviews, tracks and oversees license compliance and all financial information for the office. She has an excellent business background with more than 10 years in engineering and manufacturing firms. She also has excellent customer service experience having started her career in the retail industry. LJ has more than 27 years of progressive management, office administration and customer service.
LJ is continuing her studies at Utah State in Business Information Technology.

Raymond DeVito is the Technology Commercialization Director at Utah State University and an Adjunct Professor of Physics. He holds an undergraduate degree (physics) from Rutgers University and a Ph.D. (physics) from Michigan State University. He was Director of Research for Siemens Medical Systems responsible for new technology development and Intellectual Property management for the Nuclear Medicine Imaging Group. At Siemens he completed numerous new product developments and market introductions and established strategic collaborations with universities and other industrial partners. He was founder, CEO and President of Mosaic Imaging Technology, a company dedicated to the development for advanced medical imaging instrumentation. He secured operating capital from venture capital and government sources. He led multi-disciplinary and multi-national collaborations to complete the initial demonstration prototype. He was Director of Detector Technology and a member of the Board of Directors for Constellation Technology Corporation, a government contractor developing advanced sensors for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological applications. In his position at Constellation he transformed a research process for growing crystalline detector material into a full scale production process, optimized production yields and established patent policy and procedures. He has led efforts to secure SBIR and other grant funding available for businesses with awards totaling over $4.7 million. He is a Member of The American Physical Society, the Association of University Technology Managers and a Senior Member of the IEEE. He is author of numerous scientific and technical publications in the fields of Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Physics and Radiation Detection.

Berry recently joined TCO in January, 2008. He is currently working to protect USU inventions and to create commercial opportunities in support of industry and university research programs. He suggests that, “USU scientists can really have an impact on our local business community by sharing knowledge and providing available cutting edge technologies to the public.” Berry works closely with USU researchers to assist them in commercializing new inventions. “I’ve always felt the university system must be engaged with private/commercial company partners in conducting breakthrough areas of research, leading our scientists to new inventions. “
Berry comes to the USU Technology Commercialization Office with a broad background of experience in agricultural research, and research administration in industry and academia.
Prior to joining USU he was the Assistant Director for Research Programs at the University of Florida’s, Institute for Food and Agricultural Sciences, specializing in intellectual property management and commercial licensing. The land-grant chartered University of Florida is in the top 10 of leading research Universities. Prior to joining UF, Berry was employed by Coors, an industry fortune 500 marketing company, and last holding the position of Department Head for Malting Barley Research. Berry was involved in all aspects of industrial science and research management. He is responsible for breeding several malting barleys used exclusively by Coors.
Berry earned BS and MS degrees in the agricultural sciences from Colorado State University and was an Ag Engineering Lecturer/Researcher at Kansas State University, prior to joining Coors and the University of Florida.

 


Glenn Whichard

Glenn recently joined us from the Washington, DC area where he served as a technology consultant and government contractor. He provided on site support to the Industrial Technologies Program Office at the Department of Energy headquarters. In addition to analyzing the commercial potential of DOE funded research at National Laboratories, Universities, and industry; he also assisted in the preparation of solicitations and the review of research proposals.
Previously, Glenn managed the technology assessment and commercialization activities on an Army program identifying emerging technologies that could address both Army and private sector needs.
Glenn also spent time with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a patent examiner. Glenn earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Vanderbilt University, Glenn also holds an MBA from Indiana University, an M.S. degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla and a B.S. degree from Alfred University.

Allan Wood joined the Technology Commercialization Office as an intern in February of 2005. He was subsequently hired on as a licensing assistant in September of 2006. In addition to providing support to the TCO's licensing associates, his responsibilities include conducting market research on emerging technologies, preparing business plans, assisting in internal analyses, working on license agreements, and evaluating ideas for patent and commercial potential. Allan also is responsible for providing support to the TCO's small business accelerator located on Innovation Campus. Allan has prior business experience in management, marketing and sales, employee training, and customer service before joining the TCO team. He has worked in retail and wholesale positions between two previous companies, in addition to completing an assistantship with the Management and Human Resources Department at Utah State University.
Allan received his MBA with an emphasis in entrepreneurship from Utah State University in May of 2005. Prior to this he received a B.S. degree in May of 2003 with dual majors in marketing and finance, and dual minors in geology and economics, also from Utah State University.

Joe recently joined the TCO in December of 2008 after completing a Ph. D. in Biology at the University of Oregon, where he conducted research on the mechanisms of cell fate determination involved in the development of sensory organs. Prior to that, he earned his B.S. in Biology from Middle Tennessee State University, where his research focused on identifying and determining the distribution of novel Legionella-like organisms in warm water systems. He is an alumnus of the University Of Oregon’s Technology Entrepreneurship Program and is a registered patent agent. Joe will work closely with USTAR professors, members of the Center for Advanced Nutrition, and other life science faculty members and inventors to evaluate, develop, protect and market novel technologies developed at USU.
