Microbiological Processes

Utah State University has established itself as a leader in the areas of Advanced Nutrition and Microbe Biotechnology. This expertise stems from individual and collaborative research among our faculty members, particularly in the Colleges of Science, Engineering, Agriculture and Natural Resources. These areas of emphasis include over 50 faculty members at Utah State University and many others through collaborations with other universities and industry.

Advanced Nutrition

  • Optimal food utilization by organisms (biological communication), including the role of cell signaling (taste and smell)
  • Efficient food production, particularly under stress conditions
  • Nutraceuticals, including metabolic engineering
  • Extensive genetic and tissue sample database

Microbe Biotechnology

  • Cellular Networks
  • Biological process improvement, particularly fermentation and assays
  • Biosensors and detection
  • Bioremediation
  • Alternative fuel production
  • Non-petroleum alternatives for materials
  • Industrial enzymes
